Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early names under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.

Pereira was dismissed on Sunday following the team's 10-match winless start to the Premier League season.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the club - are among the options to be evaluated by the club ownership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential hurdle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

However the ex- Luton head coach - who played more than 100 of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading candidate for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the Wolves board as they begin the search of hiring a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, although he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
