This past Friday, just moments after a federal appeals court decided that the government needs to pay for food stamp disbursements, the White House turned to the supreme court in a new effort to halt the ruling.

Not long after, the top US court released an urgent ruling temporarily blocking full Snap food aid payments, which nearly 42 hundred thousand people rely on to feed their families.

“Our attorneys continue fighting, continuously, to protect and further the administration's priorities,” the attorney general stated on social media just after 9:30pm local time.

Administration officials had petitioned the US appeals court to overturn a judicial decision mandating they issue this month's entire food stamp benefits amid a US federal government shutdown, and faced refusal later the same day.

The high court’s decision followed the administration asked a national appeals court this past Friday to stop a judicial directive that it provide November’s full monthly Snap assistance during a federal closure.
