Jennifer Lawrence States Speaking About Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart

Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer appropriate to comment publicly countering the Trump government, fearing it could worsen polarizing arguments and increase separation throughout the country.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Explains Lawrence

In a recent interview, she reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was acting frantically in a panicked state. But as we’ve learned, over multiple voting cycles, public figures fail to influence whatsoever on voter decisions.”

She continued, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to heighten conflict dividing the nation apart.”

Changing Allegiances

The actress has spoken candidly about supporting conservative and liberal presidential nominees in past elections. Growing up with Republican parents in Kentucky, she supported John McCain in 2008 prior to switching to the Democratic party and stating she realized during Obama’s administration that voting Republican was undermining her own rights as a woman.

Past Statements

Several years ago, she stated that Trump winning the presidency could represent “a catastrophic event” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. During the most recent election, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “since I think she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will take all necessary steps to defend abortion access.”

Hollywood’s Stance

The star was aligned with numerous celebrities in her disapproval of Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the voting intentions was underscored by his election win.

“The second term feels different,” commented the actress regarding his leadership. “Because he made his plans clear. We knew what he did for his first term. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”

Current Projects

Lawrence is highlighting the drama, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she stars as a new mother who deals with her psychological well-being in rural Montana. During a media event for the movie in the film festival, she spoke about the conflict in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s mortifying. What’s occurring is nothing short of a genocide and it’s terrible.”

Additional Thoughts

She continued by saying that she was disappointed by “the hostility in the discussions of American politics at present and how that is going to be accepted to the children today. It’s going to be standard to them that politicians lie.”

She sought to redirect frustration about the issue to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she advised, seen by observers as a allusion to the recent commitment endorsed by more than 4,000 arts community members to refuse engagement with Israeli film institutions.

Individual Insights

The actor, who received an Academy Award at a young age for her performance in the acclaimed film, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in her latest project. Although the director has denied the narrative being interpreted as one of post-birth struggles and mental illness, Lawrence said that she connected with aspects of her character’s journey after the arrival of her second son, not long after filming concluded.

“There was concern regarding my baby,” she explained, “imagining every potential danger, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was receiving counseling, but I started taking a drug called the prescription and I used it for 14 days and it really helped.”

Career Moments

The actor also spoke about the freeing requirement of completing nude scenes in the project while she was in pregnancy and couldn’t work out.

“It feels nice,” she remarked, about having to set aside self-consciousness. “I mean, I sometimes think where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
