The sport of boxing is experiencing a significant decline this year, with a scarcity of big events and markedly reduced engaging contests than usual. Wardley, a former white-collar slugger, who only started boxing when he was 20 years old, had no amateur boxing history and has always had to overcome questions regarding his technical limitations. But he is equally near to a shot at the title.

“This is the biggest bout, at the moment, in the heavyweight class. Both these fighters have accepted the challenge when neither fighter was required to take this bout. Joe Parker is the interim champion and they have formally instructed Usyk to fight him, but he was sidelined. Joseph wants to fight anyway.

Wardley will be 31 in December, and he said: “This is a monumental event for the both of us. It is undoubtedly the largest contest of my professional life and the biggest fight of my life. But every time I step up I excel under pressure. This Saturday will be no different. The gap between where Joe is and where people think I am has been a recurring narrative during my entire career.

“He has been going around the block for a extended duration, with a lot of fights on his record.
