Whenever a major awards ceremony draws close, one notices a clamor for the addition fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.
My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.
Existing Game Classification System
The major gaming awards currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.
Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.
- One classic puzzle game received no recognition for anything that year
- A different innovative game received no nominations in 2019
- A beloved organization game got ignored recently
- Just some puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as the most-played games in the world and have been for many years.
The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting with almost every other genre.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the challenging frontier game development, producing among essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
