Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
