Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. “This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration. “Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.” This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House. The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year. A Future Secured Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement. “This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message. “It captures the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.” Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
