The State of Texas Top Legal Officer Sues Tylenol Manufacturers Concerning Autism Spectrum Assertions

Legal Action
The Texas Attorney General, who supports former President Trump who is running for the United States Senate, accused pharmaceutical manufacturers of hiding the risks of Tylenol

The top legal official in Texas Paxton is suing the producers of Tylenol, alleging the corporations concealed safety concerns that the pain reliever presented to pediatric brain development.

This legal action comes four weeks after Donald Trump promoted an unsubstantiated connection between consuming acetaminophen - alternatively called acetaminophen - while pregnant and autism spectrum disorder in offspring.

Paxton is taking legal action against the pharmaceutical giant, which once produced the medication, the only pain reliever approved for women during pregnancy, and Kenvue, which presently makes it.

In a declaration, he stated they "deceived the public by profiting off of pain and promoting medication without regard for the potential hazards."

Kenvue asserts there is insufficient reliable data tying acetaminophen to autism spectrum disorder.

"These manufacturers lied for decades, deliberately risking countless individuals to line their pockets," the attorney general, from the Republican party, declared.

The company stated officially that it was "deeply concerned by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the safety of paracetamol and the potential impact that could have on the welfare of American women and children."

On its website, Kenvue also said it had "regularly reviewed the relevant science and there is lacking reliable evidence that demonstrates a proven link between taking acetaminophen and autism."

Groups representing medical professionals and health professionals share this view.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has said paracetamol - the key substance in acetaminophen - is one of the few options for women during pregnancy to manage pain and fever, which can pose serious health risks if not addressed.

"In multiple decades of studies on the utilization of paracetamol in pregnancy, no reliable research has successfully concluded that the usage of acetaminophen in any stage of gestation causes neurodevelopmental disorders in children," the group commented.

This legal action mentions latest statements from the previous government in claiming the medication is allegedly unsafe.

Recently, Trump generated worry from medical authorities when he advised women during pregnancy to "resist strongly" not to take acetaminophen when ill.

The US Food and Drug Administration then released a statement that doctors should consider limiting the use of Tylenol, while also mentioning that "a causal relationship" between the drug and autism in young ones has remains unverified.

Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who manages the FDA, had vowed in spring to undertake "comprehensive study program" that would establish the cause of autism spectrum disorder in a short period.

But experts advised that discovering a single cause of autism - considered by experts to be the consequence of a complicated interplay of inherited and external influences - would prove challenging.

Autism is a category of lifelong neurodivergence and disability that influences how individuals experience and interact with the environment, and is recognized using medical professional evaluations.

In his court filing, the attorney general - a Trump ally who is campaigning for US Senate - alleges Kenvue and J&J "deliberately disregarded and sought to suppress the research" around paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder.

The lawsuit seeks to make the companies "eliminate any commercial messaging" that claims Tylenol is secure for women during pregnancy.

This legal action parallels the complaints of a group of guardians of minors with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who filed suit against the manufacturers of Tylenol in recently.

A federal judge dismissed the case, saying investigations from the parents' expert witnesses was inconclusive.
